Independence Day is on Thursday, and because it's a federal holiday, you may want to prepare accordingly as many facilities will be closed and services will be paused. Here's a look at some of them:

The City of Augusta posted a list online of services that will be modified on July 4. Augusta's municipal building, 311 center, utilities offices, landfill, community centers (including the swim centers), will be closed on the holiday and reopen on July 5. Garbage, recycling, and waste pickup will be delayed by one day. Augusta's public parks and the Newman Tennis Center will be open.

Augusta Transit will have no fixed routes, demand responses or rural transit services available on July 4. They will resume on July 5.

Columbia County offices and libraries will be closed on July 4. They will reopen on July 5. The City of Grovetown's offices will be closing even earlier, on July 3 at noon and will remain closed until July 8. This may cause delays in bulk and yard waste pickup. The City of Harlem's offices will be closed on July 4 and reopen on July 5. Recycle service will run on schedule, but the garbage service will be on a one day delay.

City of Aiken's offices and Aiken County offices will be closed on July 4 and reopen July 5. The trash/recycling pickup will be delayed by one day. Aiken County Convenience centers and landfills will also be closed. North Augusta sanitation will not be offered on July 4. The day's collections will be conducted on July 3, while all other collections will not be affected.

Burke County offices and the library will be closed on July 4. They will reopen on July 5. Garbage will be delayed by one day.

Curious about the mail? All post offices will be closed for retail transactions and there will be no regular residential or business mail deliveries. UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on July 4 and store locations may be closed. Check with your local store for specific hours of operation. Most of FedEx's pickup and delivery services will not be available on July 4, and you will need to check your local store's hours of operation. Priority and critical mailing services are available all year long, including on the 4th.

Need to shop or eat out? Many chain stores have confirmed they will be open on July 4, including Kroger, Target, Walmart, Sam's Club, Publix, and Food Lion. Aldi's will be closing early at 4 p.m. Many restaurant chains like McDonald's, Chick-fil-A, Olive Garden, and Dunkin' have also said they will be open, but hours vary depending on the location.
