VIDEO | One person injured, 16 units destroyed following apartment fire on Steven’s Creek Rd.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Just before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday night, the Augusta Fire Department responded to the 900 block of Steven’s Creek Road for a structure fire call.

A 911 caller reported hearing fireworks for over two hours before noticing a fire on an apartment building at Nine Two Six West.

The caller immediately began knocking on doors, informing residents of the fire and urging them to evacuate.

Upon arrival, firefighters notified Richmond County Dispatch that the incident required a full response. The fire was brought under control and quickly extinguished.

A total of 16 Apartment units burned.

According to NewsChannel 6’s photojournalist Dania Alawir, building 3300 is a total loss.

Authorities say 1 minor injury was reported by a young lady who escaped from her balcony.

Residents were put in contact with the Red Cross for assistance.

The cause of this fire is under investigation.
