    The Georgia Department of Public Health, Environmental Health Section, conducts regular restaurant inspections to help keep residents and visitors safe.

    The following is a list of restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that have been inspected between July 5 and 11, accompanied by their scores and, in some cases, the health infractions that lowered those scores.

    Disclaimer: On any given day, an establishment may have fewer or more violations than noted in their most recent inspection. An inspection conducted on any given day may not be representative of the overall, long-term conditions at the establishment. A few more recent, follow-up inspections may not be included here.

    Here are food and drink establishments in Richmond and Columbia counties that passed recent food-service inspections between July 5 and 11 with scores of 100, without a single health violation:

    • Krystal at 31116 Washington Road in Augusta: 94
    • Waffle House at 1629 Gordon Highway in Augusta: 94
    • P.F. Chang's at 3450 Wrightsboro Road in Augusta: 92
    • Carolina Ale House in at 203 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway in Augusta: 90
    • Tutti Frutti Frozen Yogurt at 1125 Agerton Lane in Augusta: 90

    Here are restaurants in Richmond and Columbia counties that posted the lowest recent food-service inspections between July 5 and 11, followed by their scores and, where available, inspectors' comments. Scores of 70 and below are considered failing:

    209 Restaurant Café and Catering at 566 Broad Street in Augusta scored 70. Here were the inspector's comments:

    • "Flies throughout the kitchen. Determine an approved method to get rid of and deter flies."
    • "Food items stored uncovered in the coolers and freezers. Store all food items covered."
    • "Buildup on equipment throughout the kitchen. ... Pink and black buildup inside the bulk ice machine. Clean up buildup. Increase cleaning frequency."
    • "Chicken, beef, and tomatoes cold held above 41 Fahrenheit. Maintain cold held foods at 41 Fahrenheit or below."
    • "Liquid eggs, bread, juice, syrup, and brown sauce stored past date markings. Monitor date markings and ensure food items are properly discarded."
    • "Containers of food stored on the floor in the dry storage room. Store all food items at least 6" off of the floor."
    • "Excess standing water throughout kitchen. Squeegee or determine method to remove excess water."
    • "Several broken/missing floor tiles. Repair."
    • "Mops sitting on floor and inside mop bucket. Store mops hanging to air dry."

    Joe's Underground at 144 Eighth Street in Augusta scored 70. Here were the inspector's comments:

    • "Observed fruit flies and live roaches. Increase cleaning frequency and pest control services, remove the source of standing water, and fill gaps in floors, walls, and ceilings."
    • "Build up on floors and walls throughout. Increase cleaning frequency."
    • "Items stored longer than seven days in solo cooler (I.e. salsa, lettuce, pimento cheese). Discard items after seven days."
    • "Handwashing sink not functioning in car area and handwashing sink in kitchen not stocked. Repair and always keep hand sinks stocked with soap, paper towels, a sign, and a garbage bin."
    • "Compartment sink in kitchen area; no way to wash, rinse, and sanitize food contact surfaces (food storage containers). Acquire a method for properly washing, rinsing, and sanitizing food contact surfaces that does not contaminate handwashing sinks or food contact surfaces."
    • "No proof of certified food safety manager certification for facility. Post up-to-date certification."
    • "Several priority items marked out on inspection. Person in charge must demonstrate food safety knowledge and active managerial control of food/employees."
    • China City at 3128 Deans Bridge Road in Augusta scored 69. Here were the inspector's comments:
    • "Multiple flies throughout the establishment. Hire a professional pest control company to get rid of the flies or use a commercial grade only pest control system."
    • "Raw chicken stored in container on floor with flies. All foods must be kept 6" off ground for storage."
    • "Raw chicken stored on floor uncovered. Broccoli in walk in cooler uncovered. All foods must be stored covered for protection."
    • "Cabbage being stored at 54 degrees. Cold holding temperatures should be below 42 degrees."
    • "Observed scoops stored in containers with food. Store scoops outside containers to avoid accidental contamination."
    • "Observed wet mop not hung to dry. All mops must be stored to air dry."
