    Special Olympics Kayakers hold joint training event

    APPLING, Ga. (WJBF) – The Augusta Stars, a group of local athletes allied with Special Olympics GA, participate in a kayaking training activity over the weekend in Appling, Ga.

    The event was held on July 13 at the Pointes West Army Resort.

    Charlotte Lewis, a Special Olympic Kayaker who also went to the World Games with local 2023 Special Olympics World Games Berlin participant Raven Allen joined the group of local athletes allied with Special Olympics GA. They participate in competitive kayaking, basketball, volleyball, horseback riding, cycling and bowling.

    Allen, for her part, won the silver medal in the 200 medal tandem Kayaking event with a partner in Berlin in 2023.

    Lewis’ father coordinates for these kinds of events out of Bluffton, S.C. and asked for Augusta’s local team to participate.

    Though it wasn’t an official competition, they set up lanes and collected times to prepare for a for a large competition in August.

    Awards were presented to those who completed the course.
