    USA Cycling event to close roads in Downtown Augusta July 28

    AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The USA Cycling Masters & Junior National Championships criterium is being held in Downtown Augusta on July 28, leading to some road closures planned for the area.

    To ensure the safety of the cyclists, Richmond County Sheriff’s deputies will be monitoring the course.

    Participants are meeting at the Augusta Common, with the roads closing between the times of 4:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.

    Here are the following road closures:

    • Broad St. side of Augusta Common from 9th-7th, westbound lanes only
    • Reynolds St. from 7th to James Brown, all lanes
    • James Brown from Reynolds to Broad St., all lanes
    • 7th Street from Broad to Reynolds, all lanes

    Parking is not allowed along the route.

    Spectators who would like to watch the race are asked to park outside of the course and use the authorized walking areas, as racers can hit the speeds up to 40 mph.

    Individual time trials before the criterium will be held on Fort Eisenhower July 25-27.

    The event is expected to bring hundreds of participants to the CSRA.
