    Attention, class: Here are the new first-year principals in Augusta-area schools

    With thousands of pupils returning to class, some Augusta-area schools have new leaders for the 2024-25 year. Here is a partial list of educators who will be newly-appointed principals in Richmond, Columbia and Aiken counties.

    Richmond County

    Sheri Calhoun will be the new principal at McBean Elementary School. Most recently, she had been W.S. Hornsby Middle School's assistant principal since 2019. Before that, she was an administrative intern at Craig-Houghton and Monte Sano elementary schools; an instructional coach; and, a graduation coach.

    Dr. LaQuanda Carpenter will be the new principal of Cross Creek Comprehensive High School. She was appointed principal of Barton Chapel Elementary School in 2020 and for Langford Middle School in 2022.

    Ca'Vanna Lambert will be the principal of Belair Middle School. The school, formerly Belair K-8 School, was overseen by Lambert until the school system decided to split the facility into two schools, Belair Elementary and Belair Middle. She graduated from Augusta University in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in early childhood education.

    Until the new school building is completed, scheduled by Oct. 1, Belair Middle will hold class in the former Langford Middle School, 3019 Walton Way.

    Eric Lewis will be the new principal of Lamar-Milledge Elementary School, 510 Eve St. He earned his bachelor's degree in elementary eduction and teaching from Claflin University; his master's degree in divergent learning from Columbia College; and, two education specialist degrees in curriculum and leadership.

    He had served as assistant principal at A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School.

    Crystal Middleton will be the principal of Freedom Park K-8 School, 345 42nd St., on Fort Eisenhower. For the past two academic years, she has been principal of McBean Elementary School.

    She earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Augusta State University; her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Georgia Regents University; and her educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Augusta University.

    Shetina Roulhac will be the new principal of Belair Elementary School, 3925 Harper Franklin Ave. She had been the principal at Lamar-Milledge Elementary School. She double-majored in psychology and sociology at Georgia State University for her bachelor degree, got her master's degree from Augusta State University and her education specialist degree in leadership from Augusta University.

    Kimberly Rouse will be the new principal at Richmond Hill Middle School, 3420 Julia Ave., the former Sego Middle School. The school is the former Richmond Hill K-8 School before it split into separate elementary and middle schools. Rouse has been principal at Spirit Creek Middle School. She had been assistant principal at Butler High School.

    Jasmine Scott will be principal of Monte Sano Elementary School, 2164 Richmond Ave. She served as the school's interim principal for 2023-24.

    Scott was a science teacher in Richmond, DeKalb and Aiken counties before becoming an assistant principal at Aiken County’s Aiken Scholars Academy and at Schofield Middle School.

    Scott holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of South Carolina; and a master’s degree in education and an educational specialist’s degree in educational leadership from Columbus State University.

    Dr. Shawnda Spruill will be the new principal of Richmond Hill Elementary School, a new school created by the split of Richmond Hill K-8 School, 3420 Julia Ave. The current K-8 will become Richmond Hill Middle School.

    Spruill holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina; a master’s degree in education from American International University; and an educational specialist’s degree and a doctorate in education from Valdosta State University.

    Marvin Washington will be the new principal of Glenn Hills Middle School, 2941 Glenn Hills Dr. He had been assistant principal at Murphey Middle School.

    Dr. Travis Wiggins will be the new principal of the Academy of Richmond County. He graduated from Georgia Southern University in 2001 and helped start the graphic design program at John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School. Wiggins had been assistant principal at Davidson since 2018.

    Columbia County

    Brian Killips will be principal of Columbia Virtual Academy, 6000 Columbia Rd., Grovetown.

    Originally a social studies teacher, Killips holds a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in secondary education from Augusta State University; a master’s degree in teaching from National University; and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Augusta University. He completed the Columbia County School District Aspiring Principals’ Academy in 2022.

    Sean Prouty will be the new principal at Baker Place Elementary School, 2011 Hero Way, Grovetown.

    Prouty began in 2003 as Lewiston Elementary School's music teacher, later serving on the school's leadership team. He had been assistant principal at Cedar Ridge Elementary School since 2020.

    He holds several degrees including a bachelor’s degree in music from Georgia Southern University; a master’s degree in education from Southern Weslyan University; and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Augusta University. He completed the Columbia County School District Aspiring Principals’ Academy in 2024.

    Aiken County

    Shunte Dugar will be the new principal of Schofield Middle School, 224 Kershaw St. NE, Aiken. She had been principal of New Ellenton Middle STEAM Magnet School since 2013.

    Dugar holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from the University of South Carolina Aiken; a master’s degree in school counseling; and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership and supervision from Cambridge College.

    Angela Moore will be Aiken High School’s new principal. She also is an Aiken High graduate, class of 1992.

    She earned a bachelor’s degrees in special education from South Carolina State University in 1997; a master’s degree in education and divergent learning from Columbia College in 2004; and certification in educational leadership from Cambridge College in 2007.

    Kristin Risher, an assistant principal since 2018, will be the interim principal at Paul Knox Middle, 1804 Wells Rd., North Augusta. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2006.

    Casey Rogers will serve as principal at North Augusta High School, 2000 Knobcone Ave., North Augusta. Rogers had served as a principal in our school district for the past four years, most recently as principal of Paul Knox Middle School. He also is a graduate of North Augusta High, class of 2004.

    Thurston Williams has been announced as the new principal New Ellenton Middle STEAM Magnet, 814 Main St. S., New Ellenton. He was an assistant principal at Kennedy Middle School.

    He earned a bachelor’s degrees in communications with an emphasis in television and cinema from Augusta University in 2004. He earned a master’s degree in middle grades education in 2011; an educational specialist degree in curriculum and instruction in 2015; and educational leadership Tier I in 2021, all from Augusta University.

    He completed Aiken County’s Aspiring Principals Program in June 2024, and is expected to complete doctoral studies by January 2025.
