AUGUSTA, GA. (WJBF) – Ken Statton is at the dog park with this man’s best friend.

“Having a buddy – you know somebody that’s got your back – that is always there for you, that’s special, so I love my dog,” said Ken.

We love our dogs, whether they are small dogs or large dogs, and of course, they get dog names, and dog owners will put some thought into it.

“Oh for sure. All our pets are named after mythological characters,” said Theo O’Neil.

So, here’s Artimus, and here’s Lilith.

Not the most popular dog names because I checked dog names by state.

And Georgia and South Carolina have something in common, the two most popular dog names are Bella at number One and Luna at number two.

“I know a lot of dogs named Bella and Luna; it makes sense,” said Nikki Samuels.

“Oh wow, I don’t like those names,” said Blanche Smith.

    “No Bella? No Luna?”

    “No,” said Blanche.

    “Bella or Luna?”

“Neither, but I have a niece named Bella,” said Will Cummings.

“She would not like to have a dog named after her.”

“Bella’s just not the name for me. We like the mythological naming system,” said Theo.

But what about Ken’s best friend? Well, meet Bella, the most popular name to name a dog.

“My wife did. She just came up with the name Bella. I don’t know why she came up with it. I kind of thought, ‘She’s the wife so happy life happy wife,’” said Ken.

“Next time, are you going to name a dog Bella or Luna?”

“I don’t think so,” said Blanche.

Well, the dogs say call me anything except late for dinner.
