ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — Firefighters who were working to extinguish a house fire just east of Aurora on Monday morning found the body a woman inside the house, authorities said at a news briefing.

About 10 a.m., neighbors called 911 about smoke coming from the roof of a house in the 600 block of North Bersshine Street, in a neighborhood south of Interstate 70 and east of Powhaton Road.

Six fire departments responded, as did Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office deputies, said Ginger Delgado, spokesperson for the sheriff's office.

Before firefighters arrived, neighbors had knocked on the door and no one answered. When firefighters entered the home, they found the body of a woman.

Neither Delgado nor Caleb Connor, assistant fire chief for Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue, said how the woman died, saying that information will come from the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office. No one else was in the home at the time of the fire. Delgado said there's no danger to the community and deputies aren't looking for anyone.

The fire was extinguished and contained to the interior of the home.

The woman's death and the cause of the fire are under investigation.
