Portland Arts & Lectures 40th Anniversary Season is Sold Out!
A big thank you to Portland’s book-loving community who showed up with enthusiasm this season to help us sell out the 40th anniversary of our Portland Arts & Lectures series. Since 1984, Portland Arts & Lectures has welcomed hundreds of world-renowned novelists, poets, journalists, historians, and artists to downtown Portland to share their unique world views and connect us through the power of storytelling, even through the first COVID lockdowns when we presented online-only and hybrid events. We are thrilled to be back to full capacity at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall and selling out the almost 3000-seat hall! Our 40th anniversary season welcomes a star-studded lineup: Amy Tan, Abraham Verghese, Timothy Egan, Masha Gessen and Emily Wilson.

Looking back on Local 48
Current and former members of IBEW Local 48 gathered July 12-13 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus. Charlye Molden, 80, flew to Portland from Atlanta to attend and see her former coworkers. Molden was the first Black woman to join Local 48. She agreed to share her story and perspective with the Labor Press.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The annual flu shot could soon be a thing of the past. Scientists are working on a revolutionary formula that would result in only needing one flu shot in your lifetime. Simply put, this would mean no more annual vaccinations or worrying about whether this year’s shot will match the flu strains circulating around the world.
Portland sees highs near 90 Friday. Weekend looks mixed; hot Saturday, cooler Sunday
Portland hit 90 degrees Thursday and will likely see the same temps Friday as high pressure continues to dominate the weather patterns. The National Weather Service says the region will undergo a shift in the weather likely beginning Sunday, but until then, temps will stay on the warm side with a 60-80% probability of Portland reaching the mid 90s on Saturday.
