Former Texas sprinter Julian Alfred claimed the title as fastest woman in the world at the Paris Olympics, beating Sha'Carri Richardson in the 100 meter sprint. On Friday night at the King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels, Belgium, she backed up that claim.

In the women’s 100m Diamond League Final, Alfred gained an early lead that she never relinquished to finish off her 2024 track season on a high note. The former Longhorn ran the race in 10.88 seconds, with Richardson at 11.23 seconds. Dina Asher-Smith finished in second, running at 10.92 seconds.

At the Olympics, Alfred crossed the finish line in 10.72 seconds. Richardson was timed at 10.87 seconds while bronze medalist Melissa Jefferson finished in 10.92 seconds. Richardson's time of 11.23 in the Diamond League Final was the slowest 100 meter time she's ran this entire year.

Alfred's gold medal at the Olympics was the first-ever Olympic medal won by the country of Saint Lucia. She added to her tally a few days later, winning a silver medal in the 200 meter event.

Before winning gold, Alfred was a seven-time national champion at the University of Texas . In her final year with the Longhorns, Alfred led Texas to the 2023 NCAA championship during the outdoor track and field season. She also won the Bowerman award in 2023.
