Today is Oct. 9, 2024. And on this date in Texas history, the Longhorns combined with rival Oklahoma to score 103 points in a shootout at the Cotton Bowl.

Those 103 points resulted in a 55-48 win for the Sooners during the 2021 season. That was the highest combined score in the history of a Red River Rivalry series that will turn 120 games old on Saturday. Texas and Oklahoma have combined to score at least 80 points in six of their showdowns:

    • 2021: Oklahoma 55, Texas 48
    • 2020: Oklahoma 53, Texas 45 (4 OT)
    • 2018: Texas 48, Oklahoma 45
    • 2016 : Oklahoma 45, Texas 40
    • 2012: Oklahoma 63, Texas 21
    • 2008: Texas 45, Oklahoma 35

Leading a Texas team that squandered a 21-point lead that Saturday were quarterback Casey Thompson (388 passing yards), receiver Xavier Worthy (261 receiving yards) and running back Bijan Robinson (137 rushing yards). Oklahoma was boosted by a relief appearance by future Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams, and 33 of Kennedy Brooks' 217 rushing yards were recorded on the decisive touchdown run with three seconds left.
