Vote for the Austin-area girls high school athlete of the week

It's time to make your choice for the American-Statesman Austin-Area Girls Athlete of the Week for Sept. 30 through Oct. 5.

Weiss outside hitter Caylee Mejia was voted the girls player of the week for Sept. 23-28 . Elgin football player Dylan Owens won the boys vote.

We have five nominees this week — all volleyball players: three outside hitters and a pair of middle blockers:

Lily Davis, Westlake OH

Davis, who'll play beach volleyball for Texas, had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs as the Chaps defeated two-time defending District 26-6A champion Lake Travis 25-21, 25-20, 25-18.

Jenna Hehman, Vandegrift OH

Hehman has posted double-digit kills in six straight matches, including 15 in back-to-back sweeps of Westwood and McNeil to help the Vipers improve to 10-0 in District 25-6A.

Zaniah Hoskins, Johnson OH

Hoskins has 526 kills on the season, leading the Jaguars to a 32-6 record and 6-0 start in district play.

Amelia Robinson, Llano MB

Robinson posted 45 kills as the Yellowjackets (21-5, 5-0) beat Ingram Moore 24-26, 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 15-12. Robinson has 465 kills on the season.

Kerrington Thornton, Round Rock MB

Thornton smacked 16 kills to lead the Dragons past Stony Point. She has 79 blocks on the season and is averaging 2.9 kills per set.
