Texas baseball landed a huge commitment on Friday afternoon from Trey Rangel, the top pitcher from the Class of 2026 per Baseball America's rankings. Rangel chose Texas over Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and many others.

"100% committed. Very thankful for everyone who has helped me get to this point. HOOK EM," Rangel wrote in his social media announcement.

Rangel is a junior at the Colony High School, north of Dallas, and had a 0.90 earned run average in 10 appearances in his sophomore 2023-24 season. Five Tool editor Dustin McComas reports that the pitcher has three weapons in his arsenal: a fastball at 90-94 miles per hour, a slider at 76-81 mph and a change-up at 81-83 mph.

The Longhorns made a splash after the College Baseball World Series by hiring coach Jim Schlossnagle away from Texas A&M to replace David Pierce. No games have been played yet, but Schlossnagle has made his presence felt on the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal.

Rangel will join James Jorgensen, Trenton Maybin and Phinn Waters as the most recent additions to the Class of 2026. Schlossnagle has also landed Johnson High School senior Kayson Cunningham for the Class of 2025.

Pitchers Aiden Moffett, Thomas Burns and Rujer Riojas will be transfers for this upcoming Texas season along with outfielder Easton Winfield.
