Trailing in its high-stakes showdown with No. 4 Georgia , No. 1 Texas football has made a change at the quarterback position.

Arch Manning has replaced Quinn Ewers with 4:43 left in the second quarter. The Longhorns faced a 20-0 deficit at the time of the switch.

Last week, Ewers admittedly struggled in his return from a two-game absence that was caused by a strained abdomen. In a 34-3 win over Oklahoma in Dallas, Ewers threw for 199 yards, one touchdown and an interception .

One week later, Ewers threw for 17 yards and completed just six of his 12 passes against a Georgia defense that had allowed a 300-yard passer in two of its last three games. Ewers was intercepted once and lost a fumble at the Texas 13, and those turnovers turned into 14 Georgia points.

Over its six possessions with Ewers, Texas gained just 15 yards.

While playing as both a late-game reserve and a replacement for the injured Ewers this season, Manning has thrown for 901 yards and nine touchdowns. The redshirt freshman and former five-star recruit has completed 70.5% of his 78 pass attempts.
