Today is Oct. 20, 2024. And on this date in Texas history, an in-state rivalry was born.

To open its 1894 season, Texas recorded a 38-0 win in its first-ever meeting with Texas A&M. Under head coach R.D. Wentworth, UT went 6-1 in 1894.

As reported in the following day's Austin Daily Statesman: "The game, as was before stated, belonged to the 'Varsity boys from the start and the crowd was not much surprised at the score standing 38 to 0. The A&M college boys showed wonderful pluck, however, in sticking to their colors, and had it not been that they were physically unable to cope with the giants of the 'Varsity team, they would have stood a better showing for scoring."

Texas currently owns a 76-37-5 record in its all-time series with Texas A&M. The Longhorns and Aggies last played in 2011 , but the rivals will reunite in College Station on Nov. 30.
