In Your Community: Duplicated Bridge

Duplicate Bridge is played Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the Mower County Senior Center in Austin. Games start at 11:30 a.m. Every bridge player is welcome to bring a partner either day.

Exciting news from the ACBL Magazine this week. In an article titled, “A New Sunrise,” ACBL members are preparing for celebrations of the The Longest Day, terminology signifying the 12th annual partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association in June 2013. The Bridge World has since raised over $9.9 million for that Association.

The article states that the partnership has been a good fit for two reasons. The Longest Day studies have shown that the playing of strategic games, like bridge, keeps our brain healthy. The second reason being that so many of us have been drawn by a personal connection to Alzheimers and dementia.

Last week, we introduced the term Jump Start Bridge. Chip Dombrowski has an in-depth article about our undeveloped dream of just that — games for starters that pique the interest of students. Bridge could just be an asset for the schools to enhance the futures of the younger generation. Could we start by a parent speaking/talking to a school board member? Let’s just talk and see what happens.
