    In your Community: Duplicate Bridge

Duplicate Bridge is played both Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mower County Senior Center starting at 11:30 a.m. each day; Our Club is made up of bridge players from a 50 mile radius around Austin.

Nine teams played on Tuesday. Winners were:

First place, Larry Crowe and Jim Fisher from Austin

Second place, John Leisen and Rick Stroup from Rose Creek

Third place, Joyce Kogel and Paul Hanson from Albert Lea

Fourth place, Vandy Newman and Ron Peters from Austin

Wednesday winners were all bunched up. Seven teams played and the top three teams were:

First place, Larry Crowe and Jim Fisher scored 26 points from Austin

Second place, Vandy Newman and Ron Peters scored 25 1/2 points from Austin

Third place (tie), Stan Schultz and Tom Flaherty and Gail Schmidt and Dave Ring, scored 25 1/2 points, from Mason City, Iowa

Browsing the ACBL magazine for June finds many topics of interest ranging from Squeeze plays, ruling the game (like what happens when yours truly reneges), pointers on defense, trust and verify (a team agreement), all of which can be found either online or by reading the magazine. One of our players takes this magazine. It is free for anyone who wants to read it. We pass it around to interested players.

Our numbers are down, yet we will gather together in camaraderie next week. You will note the bunched up scoring doesn’t scare anybody.

    See you next week.
