    CMT Music Awards: Need to Know

    The CMT Awards are scheduled for Sunday, April 7 at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas.  The fan-voted awards show will be a star studded affair that you don't want to miss.

    Here is everything you need to know.

    Who is the host?

    Kelsea Ballerini will be hosting again for the fourth time, but this will be the first time she will be hosting solo.

    Who will perform?

    The list of performers is spectacular and will no doubt provide hours of entertainment.  You will be able to watch Ballerini perform a new song along with

    Who is being honored?

    The inaugural June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award will be given to Trisha Yearwood. The award will praise the impact Yearwood made in the country music industry and her community.

    According to the press release, Yearwood "embodies the bold strength of June, who tirelessly devoted herself to service and community, and the namesake for this award."

    Carter Cash dedicated her life to charities like the SOS Children's Villages in Austria. She donated money to help build a village near Barrett Town, Jamaica.  She and her husband Johnny would visit the town and play the guitar and sing songs to the children.

    The press release goes on to say that Yearwood has a "unique ability to rally a community, whether that may be families in need with Habitat for Humanity, or uplifting her fellow artists and entertainers try to carve a path in the industry."

    Yearwood will also be taking the stage to perform her new single, "Put It in a Song."

    Who are the nominees?

    There are five artists tied for the most-nominated.  All vying for three awards are Cody Johnson, Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Megan Moroney and Kelsea Ballerini.

    There are several artist that will be taking their first chance at a CMT Awards.  Those include Amber Riley, Bret Michaels, Ashley Cooke, Chance Beckham, Hozier, Joe Wetzel, Stephen Wilson Jr., Tyler Childers, Warren Zeiders and Zach Bryan.

    There were 16 artists originally nominated for the highest honor of the night, Video of the Year.  On April 1, CMT announced the top six that move on.  The final three contenders will be announced Sunday morning and voting will continue through the live show.

    Who is receiving a tribute?

    As expected, the CMT Awards will be celebrating the life and career of Toby Keith who passed away of stomach cancer in February.

    The tribute will be performed by Brooks & Dunn, Lainey Wilson and Sammy Hagar.  Lukas Nelson and Roger Clemens who were members of Keith's longtime band will also be joining the tribute.

    Keith hosted the CMT Music Awards in 2003 and 2012 and over the course of his career he earned 30 total nominations and seven wins.

    Where to watch?

    The awards show will air on CBS April 7 live from 8 p.m. ET to 11:00 p.m. ET.  It will also be streamed live and on-demand on Paramount+.  Tune into CMT for a pre-show from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on CMT.
