AUSTIN (Talk1370.com) -- The Jim Schlossnagle era at the University of Texas is officially up and running, with the Longhorns' new baseball coach officially being introduced Wednesday morning.

Just hours after leading Texas A&M through its second College World Series appearance in three years - with the Aggies reaching the championship series, falling to Tennessee in a decisive Game 3 Monday night - Schlossnagle and three of his assistants decided to make the move from College Station to Austin.

UT officials announced Schlossnagle's hire Tuesday night, after news of the move broke earlier Tuesday afternoon.

“I was invested in Texas A&M through the last pitch of the national championship game. It never waivered, not one second. I don’t care what anybody else says,” Schlossnagle said during an introductory press conference Wednesday morning. “Chris [Del Conte] had a coach, and these rumors have always been around me because of my relationship with Chris. I can’t control that.”

"I've known Coach Schlossnagle for a long time, and there's no better coach, program builder, and leader in the game, and the best part is he's an even better person," Del Conte said in a statement. "When we were looking for our next baseball coach, we knew Schloss would be the perfect choice, and we are beyond thrilled that he's joining our Longhorn family. He's a guy who obviously knows our state so well, is very familiar with our program's rich and proud history and everything Texas Baseball is all about, and absolutely checks all the boxes for this critical position."

Del Conte and Schlossnagle worked together at TCU, where Schlossnagle spent 18 years leading the Horned Frogs' baseball program.

"He really understands every level of building a team, develops and gets the best out of his players and coaches, recruits with the best of them and is totally dialed into the holistic growth of the student-athletes in his program," said Del Conte. "Our players, our staff, the UT community and Longhorn Nation will absolutely love him. I can't wait to get him started and for everyone to have a chance to meet him. The future of our program is in great hands, and I'm so excited to have Coach Schloss joining our elite group of coaches as we prepare to head into the Southeastern Conference."

Under Schlossnagle's contract at Texas A&M, which was set to run through the 2029 school year, his buyout was set at $2.7 million if he left the Aggies for another in-state program.
