Joel Klatt Drops Blunt Admission About Texas Longhorns in 2024 Football Season

    By Joey Hickey,

Joel Klatt has plenty of faith in the Texas Longhorns for the 2024 season. The Fox college football analyst made his thoughts clear about the program on " The Next Round ."

Klatt was asked what place Texas ranks in the SEC this year. He shared his thoughts.

"(They rank) second. Easily second. I don't know if there's a close third actually. The top two teams are actually far superior than everybody else."

The top two teams Klatt refers to are the Georgia Bulldogs and Texas Longhorns, although the Alabama Crimson Tide and Ole Miss Rebels might each have as good a case as the Longhorns for making the top tier in the SEC.

Klatt went on to explain where he thinks Texas ranks among some playoff contenders in the conference.

"I think there's some really good teams (that will in) all likelihood wind up in the Top 10. I just happen to believe, at least at this point, that there are four really elite teams in college football." Klatt added, "Texas is one of those and obviously Georgia is one of those as well."

Georgia and Texas have the benefit of returning around two-thirds of their starters from a season ago. In contrast, Alabama loses considerably more 2023 starters than it returns, though the Crimson Tide still brings back a strong core.

The Longhorns probably belong toward the top of the conference after adding five Top 50 transfers in the portal this offseason, per 247Sports. Still, it won't be easy to win games in a much more competitive Southeastern Conference.

Texas' first SEC game will take place against the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sept. 28 in Austin.
