AUSTIN (KXAN) — A new scholarship at Austin Community College will pay for the final 15 credit hours for current students, the college district announced Tuesday.

The Affordability Scholarship program applies to over 20,000 students who were registered in spring 2024. Eligible students must have finished 45 hours toward an associate degree, according to ACC.

The program will cost ACC about $12.75 million, which will be funded in the existing reserve budget, according to the college.

The scholarship is part of ACC’s efforts to make tuition free for all students. In April, the college’s board of trustees approved a free tuition program for high school graduates and GED completers. This free tuition pilot will start in the fall.
