Belfast café partners with iconic New York bar to open first US location

A popular Northern Irish café is teaming up with The Dead Rabbit to open its first US location this summer.

Neighbourhood Café has set up shop right next to The Dead Rabbit's new p ub in Austin, Texas and the team plan to start dishing out their acclaimed brunches and coffees by the end of July.

The coffee shop and restaurant was founded by Oisin McEvoy and Ryan Crown, who aim to pair their menus with a "design-led approach" and "outstanding" service.

Some popular offerings include the iced tiramisu coffee, burrata toast, and house-made granola, which will all be available at the Austin location. The coffee will be sourced from Andytown Coffee, a San Francisco-based café owned by another Belfast team.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to introduce Neighbourhood Café to Austin and partner with The Dead Rabbit," McEvoy said.

"This is a significant milestone for us, and we look forward to sharing our passion for great food and coffee with the Austin community.”

The Dead Rabbit, which boasts itself as one of the world's most awarded pubs, has been rapidly expanding since its first location opened in New York City in 2013. Owned by Belfast native Jack McGarry, the company prides itself off representing modern day Ireland with innovative menus and curated interiors.

As part of the new partnership with Neighbourhood, The Dead Rabbit plans to develop a new range of coffee-based cocktails for both locations.

In addition, the café will play host to monthly programming and special evening events curated by The Dead Rabbit’s Director of Music Liam Craig.

"In all that we do, we first look to Ireland for brands, partners, and artisans to champion. It’s a natural next step for us to partner with, and celebrate, Neighbourhood Café, a Belfast-based business that excels in the coffee space," McGarry said.

"Their commitment to excellence aligns with our own, and we are delighted to collaborate as we expand our footprint in the US."

Ryan Crown, co-owner of Neighbourhood Café and Crown Creative, which is responsible for the creative output and design direction of both brands, said that the team is "delighted" that the partnership came to fruition.

"Neighbourhood Café and The Dead Rabbit share a common set of values, intentions, and dedication, centred around championing modern Ireland," he said.

"We are excited to dovetail the efforts of both brands and explore what the future holds as they each grow further in the US."
