AUSTIN (KXAN) — The putting greens at Jimmy Clay and Roy Kizer golf courses in southeast Austin were all replaced in the spring due to “significant damage from the January 2024 freeze,” a GolfATX spokesperson told KXAN.

The two City of Austin municipal courses have temporary putting surfaces after all 36 holes were replanted in May, Golf ATX said. It’s expected to cost $177,719 to resurface the greens and the work is expected to be completed by early to mid August.

Rounds have been discounted at both courses due to the temporary greens. The spokesperson said those discounts range from $8 to $22, depending on the day and time of day.

“To prevent any other freeze damage, staff plan to purchase greens tarps which will be installed anytime this area is expecting prolonged freezing temperatures,” Golf ATX said in its statement.

According to the Golf ATX website , these are the rates at both courses while operating with temporary greens.

    • Regular Walking: $25.00
    • Regular Riding: $40.00
    • Senior Walking: $15.00
    • Senior Riding: $30.00
    • Sunset rates are unchanged at Clay and Kizer will be $25 instead of $28 | Sunset carts are still $12
