AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin’s first responders spent some time on Tuesday training bar staff downtown as a way to prepare for events, like Austin Pride, as part of the Stop the Bleed campaign.

Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign that “encourages bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives,” according to the Homeland Security website .

The Austin Police Department, Austin Fire Department, Austin-Travis County EMS and the Lesbian and Gay Peace Officers Association (LGPOA) hosted that training at RAIN, 217 W. Fourth St. This is a way to help bar employees prepare for major events that are coming up soon, according to a media release.

The LGPOA also handed out medical supplies, like tourniquets, scissors and bandages, so those supplies can be used, in case an event occurs, the release said.
