Steve Sarkisian is preparing for his first season in the SEC after leading the Texas Longhorns to the Big 12 title game and College Football Playoff in 2023. Texas nearly reached the national title game but lost to the Washington Huskies. The Huskies faced the Michigan Wolverines for the national championship.

Texas was among the teams that spoke at SEC media days on Wednesday. The Alabama Crimson Tide, Mississippi State Bulldogs and Florida Gators were also at the podium.

During the Texas media availability, the upcoming in-state rivalry game with the Texas A&M Aggies was mentioned. It will be the first time the two rivals have played each other in since 2011. Sarkisian brought up how the Texas-Texas A&M rivalry can "divide households."

The Longhorns lead the all-time series 76-37.

"It's a great game. It's a game that divides households. Our players are probably way more excited for this game than most fans would think. ... There is a great deal of excitement," Sarkisian said. "I know Coach Elko has done a great job in a short time there. It's going to be a great environment on Thanksgiving weekend, and we're looking forward to it."

Sarkisian coached against Texas A&M as an assistant for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Texas head coach was the offensive coordinator in Tuscaloosa from 2019 to 2020. Alabama won each matchup with Sarkisian on staff.

Texas will face Texas A&M on Nov. 30 in College Station.
