    Texas baseball stays busy in portal, signs JUCO slugger Jaquae Stewart

    Texas baseball continued a busy day in the portal Monday by getting a commitment from slugger Jaquae Stewart, a Texas native who recently helped Northwest Florida State College reach the junior college national championship game.

    Stewart, a burly 5-foot-10, 230-pounder from Sinton, was considered one of the top high school prospects in the state in 2023, ranking fourth among the state's first basemen, according to Perfect Game USA. He shined at first base in his first and only season in Florida while hitting .346 with 15 home runs and 62 RBIs. In May, he earned the most outstanding player award at the Florida junior college regional championships after going 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and six RBIs in the title game against Chipola College.

    Northwest Florida State College fell to Blinn College in the  National Junior College Athletic Association championship game

    Earlier Monday, new Texas baseball coach Jim Schlossnagle picked up a portal commitment from left-handed pitcher Jared Spencer of Indiana State .
