AUSTINTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – The work to clean up a spill in a drainage ditch that leads to a creek and ultimately the Meander Reservoir is almost done.

The spill happened July 3 after a crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Austintown. A tanker hauling a load of tack coat collided with another vehicle and crashed through a guardrail. It then began leaking the petroleum-based material into the Bravo Creek, which flows into the Meander Reservoir.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said Tuesday that the trucking company hired a cleanup crew, approved by the Ohio EPA, and removed the impacted soil.

Ohio EPA said the cleanup of Bravo Creek and the wetlands is nearly complete.

Ohio EPA’s Office of Emergency Response remains engaged in the oversight of the cleanup.
