No injuries, family displaced in Fremont Street fire
JANESVILLE — A fire severely damaged a home in the 700 block of Fremont Street early Tuesday morning, displacing a family who will stay with relatives until repairs can be made. According to the Janesville Fire Department, firefighters responded to the scene right before 7 a.m. and found smoke coming from the rear of the residence. All occupants had safely evacuated and gathered across the street before crews arrived. The fire was quickly extinguished using a hoseline and no injuries were reported. The home was equipped with working smoke alarms. The Janesville Fire Department, assisted by call-in personnel, Lakeside Fire Department and the Janesville Police Department, had a total of 26 firefighters at the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
