Here's why Gov. Newsom is urging Oakland to update strict police pursuit policy
Governor Gavin Newsom is urging Oakland city leaders to revise the city's police pursuit policy.He sent a letter to Mayor Sheng Thao, the City Council, and the police department.MORE: Gov. A car recycling yard in Lancaster burned for hours Thursday, with hundreds of vehicles engulfed by flames and sending up thick black smoke over the Antelope Valley.As many as 1,500 cars and 10 acres on the 20-acre property were reported to have been scorched by flames as temperatures topped 100 degrees in the high desert, fire officials said.Los Angeles County Fire Department Capt. Atascadero opens registration for adult kickball fall season
– The City of Atascadero invites teams to join the 2024 Adult Kickball League for the fall season. Games will take place on Wednesday evenings at Paloma Creek softball fields. The season starts on Aug. 28 and ends on Oct. 16, featuring eight-game nights. Each game will last seven innings or one hour, whichever comes first. All teams will be coed, and applications are accepted only for complete teams, with a minimum of 11 players and a maximum of 18 players.
Deputies arrest Nipomo man after hours-long standoff
– Deputies from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disturbance report on July 24 at approximately 11:30 p.m. in the 100 block of South Avocado Avenue in Nipomo. Before their arrival, the suspect, identified as 36-year-old Bobby Heredia of Nipomo, vandalized a vehicle by breaking windows and damaging the body. He also threatened to kill the victim. The suspect fled the scene before deputies arrived.
