    Land in the center of Avon, Indiana , was once home to a farming family. Now officials hope new development on the property will become a new central gathering place for the Indianapolis suburb.

    Avon, in Hendricks County west of downtown Indianapolis, is one of several suburbs to see vast changes over the past few decades. Here's a look at how it changed from the mid-1980s to 2020.

    What's being built in Avon?

    Developers recently broke ground $500 million, 500-acre project in Avon. Its proposal from Republic Development includes:

    • Single-family homes and housing for residents ages 55 and older
    • Core shopping district
    • 65-acre Riverwalk District
