Pettis County Fire Battles Structure Fire; No Injuries Reported
At 4:25 a.m., Tuesday morning, Pettis County Fire was dispatched for a residential structure fire. Upon arrival, the structure was found heavily involved with three vehicles involved as well. All residents were accounted for, with one dog still inside. Firefighters made entry and were able to locate the dog in a back room with the door closed.
Pettis County Sheriff’s Reports for June 18, 2024
This article is compiled from reports issued by the Pettis County Sheriff's Office. On the night of June 14th, Pettis County Deputies conducted a subject check on US 50 Highway just west of 12th Street. The subject, identified as Jimmy W. Torres, 64, of Sedalia, was confirmed to have an active Pettis County Warrant for his arrest. The warrant was issued in May 2024 after an incident in February of 2024. At the time, Officers were dispatched to an alley near West 6th Street and South Missouri Avenue to assist with a traffic stop. A subject had been stopped for a signal violation, and the Officers felt the driver might be intoxicated. The driver staggered out of the vehicle as he stepped out. He also said his name was “Julio Gonzalez”, and he denied taking any drugs or drinking anything. After a series of field sobriety tests, Officers did not feel it was safe for Torres to continue (as he might fall). After an oral swab, Torres tested positively for stimulants, amphetamines, and cannabis. At present, Torres has been booked in at the Pettis County Jail pending felony charges of Driving While Intoxicated (Persistent Offender)* and felony Driving While Revoked. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety.

Tornado Siren Placement in Sedalia Examined
Monday night's final presentation to Sedalia City Council was from Sedalia Fire Chief Matt Irwin and Pettis County EMA Director Trisha Rooda and involved public safety. Chief Irwin focused on the placement of future outdoor tornado warning sirens in Sedalia, noting that currently there are 14 within the city limits, with three of those on the Missouri State Fairgrounds. Each has an effective range of one mile.
Two Women Injured in Saline County Crash
Two women were injured in a three-vehicle crash that occurred Monday afternoon in Saline County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a southbound 1998 Honda Accord, driven by 18-year-old Autumn R. Gier of Slater, was on Missouri Highway 240 at Missouri Route P around 12:30 p.m., when she slowed for traffic.
Two Sedalians Injured in Benton County Motorcycle Wreck
Two Sedalians were injured in a motorcycle accident that occurred Monday afternoon in Benton County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a northbound 1997 Harley Davidson, driven by 36-year-old Eugene A. Edwards of Sedalia, was on H Highway at Springlake Drive around 3:15 p.m., when the driver failed to negotiate a left curve and traveled off the left side of the roadway, ejecting both the driver and his passenger, a 12-year-old girl.

This article is compiled from the Sedalia Police Department crime reports. Early Monday morning, Officers conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle that ran multiple stop signs at South Porter Avenue and East 12th Street. A computer check showed the driver to have a suspended driving status. John W. Sant Sr., 43, of Smithton, was arrested for a charge of felony Driving While Suspended. Sant was transported to the Pettis County Jail to be booked and released.
Mountain Grove Man Drowns in Gasconade River
A Mountain Grove man drowned in the Gasconade River on Thursday morning in Wright County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that 33-year-old Preston J. Jarrett of Mountain Grove, was attempting to retrieve an item from the center of the river around 11:30 a.m., about a quarter mile west of Highway E, when Jarrett went under the water and never resurfaced.
Warsaw Man Killed in Benton County Crash
A Warsaw man was killed in a two-vehicle crash that occurred Friday afternoon in Benton County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a westbound 2017 Ford Fusion, driven by 90-year-old Homer D. May of Warsaw, was at US 65 and Route BB around 4:20 p.m., when the Ford pulled into the path of a northbound 2006 Pontiac G6, driven by 18-year-old Sarah J. Gilbert of Warsaw.
