Jim Nantz showcases incredible memory

Jim Nantz has a lot of famous calls throughout the years. In fact, his one liners at the end of many major sporting events has become the stuff of legend. But in a promotional video for the upcoming NFL on CBS season, the network challenged Nantz to identify some of his lesser known calls on just a few words of sound.

While this would seemingly be a pretty big challenge for mortal minds, it was a walk in the park for Nantz.

In this stunning video, Nantz was given four calls throughout his almost 40 years of broadcasting for CBS and asked to identify them. These are not Tiger Woods winning the 1997 Masters or even his Vegas-inspired “Jackpot” call in last year’s Super Bowl mind you. In fact, one of them is a random play from a 1991 college football game. And yet, Nantz aced the test only needing one mulligan on Tim Tebow’s overtime touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas in the 2012 NFL Playoffs.

The most impressive one of the lot might be the last, which Nantz immediately identifies as a Daron Bland pick six last season on Thanksgiving Day against the Commanders late in a blowout that set the record for most interception returns for touchdowns in a single season. That’s one that probably even most hardcore NFL fans won’t remember, and yet Jim Nantz was able to recall it instantly from just saying “this is history.” That could have been literally any other history making play, game, or event that he’s called over the years as there’s a lot to choose from.

CBS should make “Stump Jim Nantz” an annual tradition, but clearly they need to make it harder next time.
