We’re just a few days away from Scott Hanson and the NFL RedZone returning to living rooms across the United States. To say that the energy and level of excitement are palpable would be a disservice to Hanson and the octobox. We didn’t go an entire offseason without Hanson as he lent his whiparound expertise to NBC’s The GoldZone during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

But the RedZone is just different. It’s so different that Hanson doesn’t use the bathroom for seven straight hours ( or sometimes more ) so he can bring viewers across the country seven hours of commercial-free football. Before we know it, it’ll be Sunday, Sept. 8, at 1 p.m. ET.

In advance of Week 1, NFL Network’s Good Morning Football had some fun with the ever-eccentric Hanson. As they counted down the hours until Hanson graced the airwaves, Peter Schrager gave his prediction for the first time we see the famed octobox during the 2024 NFL season.

While there are so many early window games to kick off the season, it should be noted that Hanson revealed that every NFL late afternoon window will have at least three games this season. So, there might not be an octobox for the second slate of games, but that doesn’t mean Hanson won’t have viewers on the edge of their seats.

As Schrager paid what he called an “homage” to Scott Hanson, a friend of the show, Kyle Brandt did one better.

“It’s great because Scott knows it’s coming,” said Brandt. “So, he’ll welcome everybody, and he’ll be really excited. Then, he all but does a television crow hop into the first octobox. You can feel him deep down. He doesn’t go to the bathroom, and he eats extra salty bacon to dehydrate himself so he doesn’t have to go. And he goes, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, the octobox! There it is — behold! Let’s go out to Carolina where Chuba Hubbard’s chewing up yardage, looking for paydirt. Now, in Pittsburgh, this…’ It’s so fun. He’s a mad scientist.

“And speaking of mad scientists, when ( RedZone ) first comes on, it’s like the moment when Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer has those goggles on, and he’s looking through the window with the test nuke that’s 20 miles away, and you just feel the wave. And it’s like, octobox is back. Let’s go!”

It’s an NFL tradition unlike any other.
