Former Tom Brady teammate brutally honest about broadcasting debut

Tom Brady’s broadcasting debut in Week 1 led to mixed reactions, with some criticizing the seven-time Super Bowl champion and others offering a positive review.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Brady’s former teammate, Julian Edelman, fell in the camp of viewers who believe that Brady handled himself well.

During an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show on Monday, Edeman said Brady did “good” and that it was a “great starting point” for him as he heads into Week 2 of the 2024 NFL season.

“Yeah, I think he did good,” said Edelman. “You know, it’s his first time on the camera. It brings me back to the first time I got on camera for Inside the NFL . When that red light turns on, you do all that preparation, and it just changes. You gotta go and do it. Like Tom in anything he does, having that one rep is gonna make him better for the next one. I know he’s gonna be at home going over all the games and going over his game and self-scouting to see what he can do better. But I think it was a great starting point for Tom.”

Edelman is perhaps a bit more complimentary than people in sports media who watched the game. Whether it be a lack of energy or talking in a slow cadence , the overwhelming majority of people believe that Brady has clear areas to improve on moving forward.

But Edelman does raise a good point about his longtime Patriots teammate. When someone as detail-oriented as Brady proved to be in his NFL career gets some experience under his belt, it’s reasonable to believe that he will make significant improvements.

Connecting with the public isn’t an exact science for broadcasters. But as Brady moves forward, he has the backing of his longtime friend, Julian Edelman, who sees growth potential.
