During Week 3’s Thursday Night Football game between the New England Patriots and New York Jets, viewers at home got some help with spotting a blitz.

The Jets sacked Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett twice in three plays late in the second quarter. Both times, the sack came on a blitz. Both times, the blitzing player was highlighted on the Prime Video broadcast.

The first came with New England facing a third-and-1 from midfield. New York brought a blitz with safety Chuck Clark.

“And you saw the alert,” play-by-play man Al Michaels said. “And the alert gets to him.”

Clark actually didn’t bring Brissett down but the officials ruled the safety did stop the quarterback’s progress and whistled the play dead before Brissett got rid of the ball.

While Clark’s sack made things more difficult on them, a pass interference penalty on the following play set the Patriots up with a new set of downs. And on the ensuing first down, the Jets brought the blitz. Once again, it was picked up by the Prime Video broadcast.

Cornerback Michael Carter II was correctly identified as the blitzer. Unlike Clark two plays earlier, Carter was picked up. The Jets, thought, still got to Brissett dropping him for a sack.

These types of features were available on Thursday Night Football’s alternate broadcasts in 2023 and are now going to be more common on the main feed.
