Denny Hamlin blasts SiriusXM NASCAR Radio

NASCAR driver and team owner Denny Hamlin blasted SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Thursday, claiming they censored his attorney’s remarks and showed “bias” about his pending litigation against NASCAR.

Front Row Motorsports and 23XI Racing, which Hamlin co-owns with Michael Jordan, have sued NASCAR and CEO Jim France, contending the sanctioning body is operating a “monopoly,” resulting in higher prices for race teams.

Attorney Jeffrey Kessler, who is representing both teams, appeared on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Channel 90) Wednesday to discuss the case. Hamlin said the interviewer tried to “refute” Kessler’s remarks and the station also “edited/deleted” the interview because the narrative didn’t fit their beliefs.”

Hamlin did not name the interviewer, but Kessler appeared on the daily talk show, SiriusXM Speedway , hosted by Dave Moody, a longtime announcer with NASCAR-owned Motor Racing Network.

Hamlin shared his thoughts on X Thursday.

“While censorship is a big topic in today’s media world, Channel 90 might be the poster child,” Hamlin wrote. “An interview didn’t go the way they hoped after our attorney continued to state fact after fact even tho they tried their best to refute, they have since edited/deleted that interview off of their channels because the narrative doesn’t fit their beliefs. If that doesn’t convince you of the bias then nothing will.”

Kessler spoke at length about the lawsuit on the show.

“NASCAR is the poster child for being an illegal monopoly,” Kessler said (via Sportsnaut ). “It is, as all your fans know, the only premier stock car racing circuit in the country, maybe in the world and it’s got that position not by being the best or by investing money or by having the best thing out there that no one compete with. No, it got there by acquiring its competitors tied up the racetracks so no one else could compete with it.

“Going to all the teams who are independent contractors and saying you can’t go race at anybody else’s races and imposing restrictions on the cars, that the teams can’t even take their NextGen car and put it in another race.”

Hamlin also called out ESPN reporter Ryan McGee, who posted news about NASCAR’s relief efforts for Hurricane Helene victims and criticized the timing of the lawsuit.

“Debate the antitrust lawsuit all you want, but there is no debate about the callousness of the timing. Wait a damn week,” McGee wrote on X.

“Good grief, Ryan …” Hamlin responded (via TheSpun.com ).

Hamlin has been critical of NASCAR in the past. In August, he said it should accept less TV money to ensure better race start times for fans and competitors.

SiriusXM NASCAR Radio eventually restored the full interview on the SiriusXM app Thursday.
