NFL fans might not have to hear political ads while watching Thursday Night Football , but they get to hear Al Michaels read Sausage Party ads, which is much better.

With Michaels and Kirk Herbstreit returning from a commercial break in the third quarter of the Atlanta Falcons 36-30 overtime win against their division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Amazon’s NFL play-by-play voice was given an ad read for a few of their animated offerings.

“Well Kirk, it says here heroes don’t always wear capes or even clothes,” Michaels read on the broadcast. “Root for the underdogs and hot dogs in the legend of Vox Machina , Invincible and Sausage Party: Foodtopia on Prime. A Foodtopia. No vegetables.”

We have no idea whether Michaels is at all familiar with Seth Rogan’s Sausage Party or its sequel, but there’s something admittedly humorous, albeit immaturely humorous, about the 79-year-old play-by-play voice having to promote a sausage party on live TV. Fans have grown used to hearing Michaels sounding frustrated by some of the putrid Thursday Night Football matchups given to Amazon in recent years. And here was Michaels, with arguably the best Thursday Night Football game in his tenure on the call, and he was having to promote a sausage party. What a treat.

Michaels, however, took it in stride and even used it as an opportunity to promote his own disdain for vegetables. The iconic sportscaster might not be as enthusiastic about calling football games as he once was, but he remains very enthusiastic about promoting the fact that he has never knowingly eaten a vegetable.
