Jim Nantz had epic announcer jinx

The announcer jinxes have been especially strong in the 2024 NFL season so far.

They don’t discriminate. The fresh-faced new announcer is just as likely to commit one as the grizzled veteran. Just ask Jim Nantz, who pulled off an epic jinx early in the game between the Washington Commanders and the Baltimore Ravens.

A few minutes into the game, Lamar Jackson was driving the Ravens down the field when Nantz started discussing the Commanders’ defense and its inability to create turnovers.

“They have not had an interception the entire season,” he said of Washington’s defense. “Very spare when it comes to the takeaway category.”

You know what happens next. Jackson’s pass on the subsequent play bounced off the hands of his receiver and into the waiting hands of Washington rookie Mike Sainristil, who garnered that first pick of the year.

“Well, we had just said not a single pick on the whole year and, boom, the very next snap, they take it away,” said Nantz afterward.

“You called it,” incorrectly noted Romo.

Nantz didn’t “call” the interception, he made it happen through the sheer manifestational power of the announcer jinx. Big difference, Tony.
