    Matthew Stafford praises broadcasters

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford appeared on Fox NFL Sunday last week while his team was on a bye week and seemed to enjoy the experience.

It’s always interesting to see what veteran players might show up in cameos throughout the season on television, whether on a bye week or perhaps during time off due to injury, to see if they might have a future career in the sports media after their playing days are done. At 36 years old, Stafford may be at that point in his career where he is surveying the landscape to see what options are available.

Stafford would certainly have the resume to be picked up by any network given 1) he played quarterback and 2) he was a former number one overall draft pick and Super Bowl winner. And when asked this week about his future, he didn’t commit to going into broadcasting, but he did have some praise for the Fox NFL Sunday crew that he worked with during his week off.

During his lone week off of the 2024 season, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford spent time with the Fox pregame crew. Does that mean he’s thinking about a broadcasting career, once his playing days are over?

“I don’t know,” Stafford told reporters on Wednesday. “I had fun on Sunday. That’s a great group. Those guys have a really good thing going, but I’m not too worried about it at the moment, to be honest with you.”

Stafford’s appearance was well received on Sunday by fans who enjoyed his insights so if he chooses to go down the television path, odds are he’d be welcomed with open arms by Fox or any other network that’s in the NFL business… which at this point is all of them.

Of course, it would be ironic if he ended up going to ESPN and serving as a teammate to Dan Orlovsky after their playing days together in Detroit. Orlovsky has always been full of praise for his former teammate, sometimes to the extreme . But Orlovsky would probably make sure that Stafford would be his backup this time .
