Scott Hanson to guest on ManningCast

The upcoming ManningCast alternate Monday Night Football broadcast is a little different than normal. That’s because of the unusual doubleheader, which rather than a game on ESPN and a slightly timeshifted one on ABC, has a game on ABC and ESPN (Baltimore Ravens-Tampa Bay Buccaneers) with the usual 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff and then an ESPN+ exclusive (Los Angeles Chargers-Arizona Cardinals) game kicking off at 9 p.m. ET.

The Peyton and Eli Manning-led Omaha Productions/ESPN alternate broadcast on ESPN2 will primarily focus on Ravens-Bucs , but may show a few Chargers-Cardinals highlights depending on situation. It will then shift to full Chargers-Cardinals coverage once the earlier game ends. And during that Chargers-Cardinals end window, they’ll have a notable guest: NFL RedZone host Scott Hanson.

Hanson has worked for NFL Media/NFL Network since 2006 in a variety of roles, but he’s particularly known for his hosting of the NFL Media version of RedZone since its debut in 2009. (This used to be stylized as NFL RedZone from NFL Network to differentiate it from the 2005-launched DirecTV Red Zone Channel , which only appeared on DirecTV and was hosted by Andrew Siciliano; with Sunday Ticket and RedZone moving to YouTube TV last year, there’s now only the version hosted by Hanson .) He’s spoken a lot about that over the years, and it’s led to other interesting things, including his work on the highly-praised Peacock whiparound show Gold Zone at the Olympics this summer (even with one installment where he co-hosted with Siciliano ). And he’s definitely a notable ManningCast guest.

It’s somewhat interesting that Hanson, known for his ability to bounce between games on RedZone, will be coming in for the part of this show where the Mannings don’t have any need to bounce between games. As AA’s Matt Yoder wrote on the breakdown of the broadcast setup earlier this week and the only limited expected highlights of Chargers-Cardinals during the earlier game, “Don’t expect an NFL RedZone situation to break out and the brothers to try their best Scott Hanson impersonation or anything .” That remains true, but the ManningCast will indeed feature Hanson later.

The ManningCast is in its fourth season, and has received lots of praise, including Sports Emmys for the show as Outstanding Live Series in 2022 and this year, and a Sports Emmy for Peyton Manning as Outstanding Studio Analyst in 2023. It’s set for 11 games this season , including ones in both of the next two weeks. We’ll see how Monday’s slightly-dual broadcast goes, and how the guests, including Hanson, are received.
