Atlanta Braves are heading back to the playoffs, facing San Diego

The Braves ' hunt for another World Series title is still on.

The big picture: After blowing a 3-0 eighth inning lead in the first game of their doubleheader Monday against the New York Mets, the Braves won the second 3-0.

    • They'll head to San Diego to face the Padres Tuesday at 8:30pm ET in the NL Wild Card game which will be on ESPN.

Catch up quick: The Braves and Mets were the only two MLB teams playing Monday. The doubleheader was a result of games that were postponed last week due to Hurricane Helene .

    • Atlanta needed to win just one game to make it into the playoffs and made it interesting. After surrendering a late game lead in the first game, the Braves were back on top heading into the 9th inning.
    • In the second matchup, Atlanta's offense seemed less than enthusiastic mustering only three runs as the team burned through six pitchers.

The other side: The Braves and Padres played seven times during the regular season with Atlanta winning three games, two of which were at San Diego.

    • The Padres are coming off their second-best season in franchise history going 93-69, Axios San Diego's Andrew Keatts writes .
    • The team also set an attendance record at Petco Park — meaning Atlanta is likely to face a hostile environment throughout the Wild Card series.

Fun fact: This is the seventh consecutive season Atlanta has made it to the MLB playoffs. It's the second-longest streak in franchise history since they made it 11 seasons in a row from 1995 to 2005.

    • Yes, but: Much like that run, they, so far, only have one World Series championship to show for it.
