Michigan, Texas lead college football ticket sales

Resale ticket prices to University of Texas home football games are the highest in the nation, according to new data from StubHub.

Driving the news: The realignment of conferences this season has created significant demand for tickets and cost increases across the board.

By the numbers: Texas, which ranked fourth in the AP's pre-season Top 25 College Football Poll , saw its average ticket price surge this season.

• The average sold price per ticket to a Texas home game is $349, according to StubHub data — the highest of any college football team this season.
• Michigan, the defending national champions, led cumulative ticket sales on StubHub as of Aug. 7. The average sold price of a home game ticket is $322.

Zoom out: Following the Longhorns, the schools with the highest resale prices for home games are: Texas A&M, Alabama, Ohio, Georgia, USC, Florida, Notre Dame and Penn State.

• The SEC's average ticket price climbed by 58% from last year — increasing from $119 to $188, per data from Vivid Seats.

What's next: Texas opens the season at home against Colorado State on Aug. 31 before a massive matchup with Michigan in Ann Arbor on Sept. 7.
