Tim Walz comes to Boston on fundraising swing

Democratic vice presidential candidate Gov. Tim Walz stopped off in Boston last night to raise money for running mate Kamala Harris' White House bid.

Why it matters: The Minnesota governor's first trip to Massachusetts since joining the Harris ticket was to mingle with Democratic donors and dive into the deep pockets of the Bay State's well-off.

Walz, known as America's new dad by some supporters, struck a positive note in front of 50 or so Democratic bigwigs gathered to hear the new VP pick and former football coach speak.

    • "There's a lot of, if you will, the euphemisms, the blocking and tackling of a campaign that needs to go on — but don't underestimate the sense of joy that's starting to emanate from this," Walz said, according to the Globe.

Follow the money: The reception was a tony affair at the Newbury Boston (the old Taj, aka the old Ritz) in the Back Bay with dinner prices starting at $25,000.

What they're saying: "Boston is sometimes referred to as an ATM for the Democratic Party, and we do raise a lot of money," Solomont said, according to a pool report, adding that the event raised over $1.2 million for the Harris-Walz ticket.
