Plaza Midwood coffee shop Giddy Goat expands to South End

    By Alexandria Sands,

    2024-08-06

The Giddy Goat Coffee Roasters will turn a vacant, industrial South End building into its next cafe.

Why it matters: Since opening in 2020, Giddy Goat has become a popular stop in Plaza Midwood — so popular its kitchen is now too cramped to keep up with demand, especially for its praised empanadas , owner Rhyne Davis tells Axios.

State of play: The new cafe, which does not have an opening date, will also be the site of a large kitchen and warehouse to support Giddy Goat's growth , Davis says.

    • "I hope it has the type of foot traffic that we enjoy at Plaza Midwood," he says. "I think once we start roasting coffee, people can smell the coffee roasts, they might come a-runnin'."

Between the lines: MPV Properties and Davis's company Rhyno Partners Coffee purchased 3001 Griffith St. for $4 million.

    • The 6,380-square-foot building is at the intersection of New Bern Street, near Suffolk Punch and Bossy Beulah's. The coffee shop will likely take up about 2,000 to 2,5000 square feet, with the rest reserved for the kitchen and packaging.
    • "I have an architect that's gonna jazz it up a little bit and set up a lot of outdoor seating," Davis says.

Fun fact: Giddy Goat co-founder Carson Clough will compete in the Paralympics in Paris this September. He lost part of his right leg in a 2019 boating accident on Lake Norman.
