Local travel is on the rise, according to new data from Airbnb .

Context: In a new study , Airbnb found that more people are using their platform to stay at locations within 300 miles (about a tank of gas) from where they live.

• "Local travel is growing twice as fast as long-distance travel on Airbnb," a statement from the home rental company reads.

Zoom in: The study also found that Charlotteans traveled the most to Raleigh, Wilmington, Carolina Beach, Durham and Oak Island in the last year.

By the numbers: As of Tuesday, Aug. 20, the average price for regular gas in Charlotte is $3.197, down from $3.207 the day before and $3.318 last month.

• In North Carolina, the average price for regular gas is $3.183, which is lower than the national average of $3.404.
