    Metallica is coming to Charlotte

Thrash metal legends Metallica are coming to Bank of America Stadium May 31, 2025, as part of their M72 World Tour.

Why it matters: Nothing else matters, the band's faithful might say. These Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, led by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, redefined heavy metal in the 1980s and 1990s with anthems like "Master of Puppets," "One," and, yes, "Nothing Else Matters."

Flashback: The band lists their first tour Charlotte stop in Charlotte as 1986 at the Charlotte Coliseum, where they played multiple shows over the years.

    • Metallica's last Charlotte show was in 2018 at Spectrum Center.
    • They were scheduled to perform at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 2020, but that was cancelled due to the pandemic.

The big picture: The show is another guitar string in the cap of Bank of America Stadium, which has reeled in The Rolling Stones , Beyoncé , the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Billy Joel in recent years.

The bottom line: Now in their fifth decade, Metallica's collected a fan base that spans generations — in part because some hits have taken on new life as hype songs in sports venues across the country.

What's next: Tickets go on sale Friday, Sept. 27, at 10am.
