The Billy Joel announcement is a full circle moment for Bank of America Stadium

Billy Joel and Sting will perform at Bank of America Stadium on May 10, 2025, Live Nation and Tepper Sports & Entertainment said in a highly anticipated announcement Thursday morning.

Why it matters: Charlotte is drawing more and more big-name acts who are taking note of Bank of America Stadium's high ticket sales. That's good news for Uptown's vibrancy in a post-pandemic world.

• Live Nation is expected to reveal even more Bank of America Stadium concerts in the coming weeks.
• Earlier this month, it announced Metallica is coming to the stadium on May 31, 2025.

What they're saying: Grant Lyman, president for the Southeast region at Live Nation, said Bank of America Stadium ticket sales are some of the best in the country.

• In general, ticket sales are up in the aftermath of COVID, as consumers want to spend money more on experiences and time with friends.

Flashback: Joel was one of the first artists to play at Bank of America Stadium in April 2022 after Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper opened the venue to the concert business.

• At the time, Tepper faced an uphill battle to convince promoters that Bank of America Stadium wouldn't embarrass its artists or undersell tickets, considering it hadn't hosted a major concert in years.
• Joel's successful, sold-out show was the catalyst for landing Beyoncé, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Morgan Wallen and other big-name acts, Lyman said.

The big picture: Earlier this year, Charlotte City Council voted to contribute $650 million for renovations at Bank of America Stadium .
