In photos: Protesters rally during the DNC

The Coalition to March on the DNC had a smaller turnout than expected for Monday's demonstration, but it still attracted thousands to Union Park.

The latest: During his DNC address, President Biden acknowledged the pro-Palestinian protests that have erupted in Chicago and across the U.S. since the Gaza war began following Hamas' Oct. 7 attack on Israel.

• "Those protesters out in the street, they have a point," Biden said. "A lot of innocent people are being killed on both sides."

The big picture: A group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators held a silent protest during Biden's DNC speech.

• The demonstration in the park included speeches in Union Park, and a march toward the United Center and back was mostly peaceful.

Yes, but: During the march near Park No. 578, a few protesters broke through one of the fences acting as a security barrier, but another layer of fencing prevented anyone from getting closer to the United Center.

• Toward the end of the march, organizers and the police disagreed over where the route was supposed to end, with organizers wanting to travel farther than police would allow.
