Maryland's tax-free week is almost here

It's primetime for back-to-school shopping during Maryland's tax-free week starting Sunday.

Why it matters: Families can buy shoes, clothing, and backpacks without paying the state's 6% sales tax.

How it works: Through Aug. 17, the sales tax will be waived on clothing and shoes under $100. Ditto for the first $40 spent on backpacks.

• Shoppers can buy eligible items in-store or online , though online purchases must be made and processed during the tax-free period.
