D.C. is a ghost town. Here's how to take advantage

Introverted Washingtonians, now is your moment: D.C. is something of a ghost town as people travel for the Democratic National Convention and end-of-summer vacations.

Why it matters: It's the perfect time to beat the lines and check out some hot spots.

State of play: The DNC runs through Thursday, meaning a lot of locals are off in Chicago getting political. And D.C. public schools start back Monday, so many families are likely squeezing in one last summer escape.

    • Cue the online reports of D.C. being empty.

How to take advantage: Reservations at often booked-up spots like Georgetown's Lutèce , Dupont Circle's Anju and Shaw's Oyster Oyster were still available for this week and weekend when Axios checked.

    • And we've heard reports of friends of Axios walking into Mt. Pleasant's Bar del Monte — it doesn't take reservations, and usually there's a wait.
    • This could also be a good weekend to hit up fave breakfast spots La Tejana , Yellow and Call Your Mother , where there are usually long lines.

Meanwhile, Usher's two concerts at Capital One Arena Tuesday and Wednesday still had plenty of tickets available when Axios checked.

Plus: We spotted some weekday tickets left at the Glenstone Museum .

And, perhaps most importantly, with everyone gone, it means there might be less of a wait to get into D.C.'s favorite club: Trader Joe's .

Yes, but: Sorry, there still weren't any reservations left for this week or weekend at hot spot Pascual , last time we checked.

    • And not even a zombie apocalypse could stop a line at Georgetown Cupcake.
